  16.      HP OpenView Interconnect Manager/UX is an enterprise multivendor network
  17.      and system management solution.. It combines the power of  our SNMP
  18.      market-leading products (Network Node Manager, Hub Manager, Bridge
  19.      Manager, and Router Manager) to deliver  a single-view management
  20.      system for global networks. The standards-based management technology in
  21.      Interconnect Manager provides the foundation for OSF/DME and makes it
  22.      the fastest path to full OSF/DME compliance. Our extensible design
  23.      provides a One-Minute Application Builder that allows you to monitor and
  24.      control any IP-addressable device. The X-Window/Motif-based color
  25.      graphic user interface makes the management of hubs, bridges, routers,
  26.      systems, and printers as simple as point and click. The Router
  27.      Configuration Management System (RCMS) takes the mystery out of internet
  28.      configuration through a color graphic back-of-the-box  picture that
  29.      allows you to fully configure HP and Wellfleet routers. Our leading-edge

  31.      IP-addressable device on your network. This easy-to-use  manager comes

  36.      Features
  37.      o Adherence to Standards:  HP OpenView Interconnect Manager/UX not only
  38.        supports current network management standards, but also defines future
  39.        standards. The technology found in Interconnect Manager today provided
  40.        the basis for the OSF/DME platform. This will allow you to integrate
  41.        other vendors' OSF/DME-based management applications (as they become
  42.        available) with Interconnect Manager, making it the first and most
  43.        robust single-view manager in the market. Interconnect Manager
  44.        supports TCP/IP, SNMP/IP and is capable of monitoring various
  45.        protocols and LAN/WAN links. These include TCP/IP, DECnet IV, Learning
  46.        Bridge, X.25, XNS, IPX, and AppleTalk II.
  47.      o Extensible Management:  The extensible design of multivendor
  48.        management allows you to create a simple network management
  49.        application to monitor and control any vendor's MIB-II and private MIB
  50.        extensions in less than a minute. Combining the power of the MIB
  51.        browser, MIB loader, data collector, and the One-Minute Application
  52.        Builder allows you not only to load, compile, and browse MIBs, but
  53.        also to build and integrate the application you created with
  54.        Interconnect Manager screens.
  55.      o Configuration Management:  Combining back-of-the-router color graphic
  56.        picture with the ability to create, upload, modify, and validate
  57.        configurations for HP and Wellfleet routers makes internet
  58.        configuration as simple as activating an interface and accepting or
  59.        modifying parameters. Router configuration files can be downloaded
  60.        across the network using TFTP. Configuring ports, adjusting the

  68.        spanning tree algorithm, or setting thresholds for hubs, bridges, or
  69.        routers is as simple as pull-down menus. Any changes to the network
  70.        configuration, such as adding or removing  devices, or disabling an
  71.        interface on a router, are automatically reported through the event
  72.        notification system.
  73.      o Performance Analysis:  Tuning your network performance is based on
  74.        instant access to network statistics. Upon request, Interconnect
  75.        Manager is capable of gathering  statistics from any device on the map
  76.        and displaying the information in a graph, table, or report format.
  77.        The product is capable of collecting and graphing statistics for MIB-I
  78.        and MIB-II, as well as private extensions for any vendor supporting
  79.        the concise MIB format.
  80.      o Fault Management:   Continuous monitoring of any IP-addressable device
  81.        on your network shows you the real-time status of your
  82.        mission-critical network operation. Each of these devices is shown on
  83.        the automatically drawn network map and has a comment field displaying
  84.        whom to call, so you can start corrective action immediately.
  85.        Interconnect Manager is capable of monitoring status down to a
  86.        specific port on a hub or an interface on a bridge or a router. This
  87.        allows you to monitor specific user connections and to associate user
  88.        name and station address and IP address. Also, the System
  89.        Administration Management (SAM) allows you to monitor disk space
  90.        utilization and CPU utilization, as well as install and configure
  91.        software across the network for HP-UX based systems.
  92.      o Network Security:   Interconnect Manager gives you various levels of
  93.        security. These vary from a simple encrypted password for every
  94.        HP EtherTwist device on the network to a sophisticated
  95.        unauthorized-alarm notification facility. For example, you may
  96.        restrict access to a hub using a password or restrict access to a
  97.        specific port on a hub by disabling that port and setting a threshold
  98.        to be activated as an alarm in the event of unauthorized access.
  99.      o Ease of Use:  The various task automation facilities, from map drawing
  100.        to automatic alarm  notification, combined with context-sensitive
  101.        online help and a Motif-based color graphic user interface, ensure
  102.        that  single-view management is achievable without an extended
  103.        learning curve.
